Description :

the survivalists is team 17's latest offering on the nintendo switch and as the title suggests it's a survival game that feels like a cross between terraria and stardew valley. The game begins improper with a minor storytelling segment that feels straight out of cliche 101. You’re shipwrecked on an island and in all honesty it's self-referentially basic and you'll unlock other story segments in the form of short diary entries which you'll find scattered across the island, or rather islands. And there are a number of different biomes as well as temples to explore and as you'd expect there's some procedural generation that goes into determining exactly where and when you'll find these diary entries. What i will say about them is the text was a little bit small for my liking. However, i tend to sit rather close to the tv it may be a tiny bit of an issue for some in handheld although it really isn't a huge part of the game. In terms of the gameplay as you'd expect it's a survival game which can be played solo offline or you can join friends locally or through online play. there are several games in this genre already that do it very well, so it's going to need a few tricks up its sleeve and the first and foremost of these has to be the monkey mimic system.

In this title what they've cleverly done is essentially allowed you to program simple scripts. by holding the left trigger down you can tell one of your monkey followers to observe your actions and upon the pressing of the trigger again they'll try and replicate as best they can. For example, you might be hoovering up some of the rocks in the area and then they'll do exactly the same and they'll just go picking every item up that they can find. it can be really useful and it mitigates, some of the frustrations that come from the often lethargically slow pace that survival games can tend to lean towards. In addition to this they'll gradually improve their ability to do these tasks leveling up. Which was a nice touch as far as your character goes you can customize the look to an extent as well as give them a completely unique and original name. But it's that clever implementation of the monkey system that really stood out to me it's not perfect and it's certainly not without its flaws but you can actually do quite a bit with this system. Such as, training up several monkeys and having them attack dummies to fight alongside you in essence building your own planet of the apes. It takes a bit of getting used to and in all honesty i don't think i really utilize them as well as i could have but the possibilities here are quite extensive. As far as the basic survival gameplay goes you'll be able to craft a number of items from the local flora and fauna such as an axe head from a rock which can be used to knock down trees and thankfully break other items. The parts you gather from these are shown at the bottom of your screen and depending on which ones you're holding it will gradually expand your crafting potential. Now, once you've built a workbench this grows even more and new recipes aren't learnt you don't have to do anything in particular other than owning the specific ingredients required in their development. Which is a nice touch but potentially means that you're going to unlock everything quite quickly. But there are quite a lot of secrets here, once you've built up your ship you'll be able to sail away to other islands.

Upon which you can settle build new bases and try and defend yourself from attacks and raids which happen from time to time and can be a bit of a pain in the ass. Some of the biomes will do your character damage such as the hot lava planes or the fly infested swamps. There’s a risk and reward mechanic here that i quite liked because they usually have some good or rarer items for you to find. buildings are constructed through a blueprint screen from here you can place down your different blueprints the parts of which you'll need to gather and place within them and then use a multi-tool, which range from standard up to a much better version to complete the build. very similar to something like my time at porsche if you ever played that game to save your game a la minecraft you'll need to build a bed and then sleep the beds you get can gradually be improved to improve your stamina which can be seen down in the corner of your screen here your health bar is shown over on the left and it's actually split into two segments one determines your hunger while the other your overall health and if it's fully depleted then you will fall unconscious. but i've gotta say as you know i do enjoy survival games and i haven't actually died yet but that's not to say the title's easy on the contrary combat is downright challenging. you can perform a number of swings dependent on the stamina that you currently have or you can hold the button down to do a more powerful attack there's a dodge roll which also can function as a counter attack if you can time it just right but it never felt quite right to me. There’s a slight input delay intentionally but it's there to all of your actions. When you press the sprint button there's a momentary pause before your character sprints. When you swing your sword again a tiny little pause arrows and bows were much better and i did enjoy the way you could hold the button down to aim them. But the game will take a bit of getting used to. It has a very distinctive style and feel but the temple runs feel suitably challenging and going it alone can be quite a daunting affair. This is where setting up a bed right at the entrance and saving your game is probably a good idea. Throughout your adventures you'll discover other inhabitants of these islands. Many of them will be hostile and attack you on site and there are a number of hidden discoveries to make as you would hope such as fulfilling the wishes of these totems it will then bestow upon you a hidden chest. Which you'll need to bash open to retrieve the goods there is a secret shop that pops up every now and then.

The owner of who will offer you a variety of different items but allow you to sell your own. It’s a real relief when you find him as he'll very often provide food upgraded weapons and the keys to the ends of the different temples. Other than the biomes themselves which are very varied the next real aspect to consider is the wildlife that shares this land with you. there are tons of different animals and creatures dotted about the world and some of these will be essential to your survival i found it really important to build a bow and arrow as quickly as possible as those pesky rabbits are just too fast otherwise. But there's everything from deer to stags who will attack you and even large sharks who i was able to cheese with a little tactic called stand on the shore and shoot them in a face with an arrow. There’s a strange euphoria that would upset every vegan as your prey explodes into several piles of meat. These can be cooked up on a fire and as with every other crafting aspect more recipes become available dependent on the items you hold in your hand. One aspect that i haven't been able to go into a great deal is the cooperative elements and i really feel like this is where the game is probably at its strongest. The world is a daunting place solo and having someone along for the ride certainly and surely would make it easier and more exciting. When i dive down into the temple spelunking for treasure having another adventurer at my back would have been most welcome. What i will say is i would have preferred perhaps a few more crafting recipes than what's on offer but i would have said exactly. The same thing when i first played terraria and the developers did exactly that the same can be said for minecraft. it's a really solid first outing it feels good to play perhaps i'd tweak the controls a little bit if i had my own way in terms of the slight delay that i mentioned but it's very good fun. overall for me gameplay scores 18 out of 20. The controls are remarkably clever with the monkey system and functionally everything they've chosen to go with makes sense such as the dodge rolls and the counter attacks but personally i'd remove that slight input delay when you sprint. Controls for me score 16 out of 20.

The game visually reminds me of stardew valley it's not an exact replica of that aesthetic but it has a certain charm to it. On the one hand at times it looks like a classic top-down pixel art title whereas at others there are hand-drawn elements that almost have a cartoony self-shaded aspect to them. There’s some punchy colors and good contrast in the scenery and while not overly complex the environments lend themselves to the feeling that you are indeed abandoned on a tropical island. The procedural generation tends to veer on the side of crowding areas with flora and fauna. Meaning that you have to knock areas clear and make your own space and your own mark on the land. i liked that a lot and while i always like to customize my own character it did feel like they could have gone a little further in that area, but renaming and customizing your troop of monkey friends was pretty cool. One area which is a touch lacking are the different variety of weather effects. in my entire play session which was around about 10 or 12 hours i never got rained on i mean i don't know if it's not there or what it just never happened. i also saw no snow and weather in general was pretty static. i loved the soundtrack and as the game has an ongoing day night cycle it shifts quite dramatically at night time becomes much more melancholic and i found the overall direction of the music was really on point.

If you think to your favorite titles there's always either one piece of music or one environmental sound that sticks in your head and for me it was the night time shift and the real mood change that that music provided here. Sound effects are pretty basic but they're decent enough some of them are functional allowing you to tell when enemies are in the area or if a particular puzzle is available and that works well. In terms of performance everything's running nice and smoothly i didn't notice any major stutters or issues in that department and as you'd hope the game is fully switch-like compatible. The only issue some players may have is text size being a touch too small for them overall for me i give the visuals 17 out of 20. And as far as the audio goes i really enjoyed it i give it 18 out of 20. another day another survival game where you washed up on an island but this time round a pleasant surprise survivalists is an excellently made game that could have a massive following it scores a switch-up score of 86.

Description :

It is said that in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king in that sense Halo Wars 2 is the de facto king of realtime strategy games on consoles. Where the venerable genre barely exists but compared to the best RTS games its campaign missions are flat its distinctive blitz multiplayer mode sacrifices the stability of a level playing field for fast action.

Instantly recognizable vehicles like warthogs and banshees Granton inherited personality to what is otherwise a fairly standard set of units. The single-player campaigns 12 missions took me roughly eight hours to complete including restarting a couple of them a few times. The mission design is nothing special leaning heavily on hero focused objectives of leading your spartans around the map and holdout missions against waves of enemies. There’s enough variety but only a couple think outside the box. Between missions are some exceptionally well animated cutscenes that tell the story of the UNSC starship spirit of fire. The latest Cortana stand-in isabel is surprisingly endearing especially next to the wooden captain Cutter and his three interchangeable Spartans. The new brute villain a tree ox fades into the background after a spectacularly intimidating introduction but his presence is still felt through Isabel's fear of him. On Xbox one I ran into numerous bugs in the campaign including several crashes and hangs and mission events failing to trigger it's an inconvenience I didn't expect to find in a game carrying the halo name.

We're Halo Wars feels most limited is in its controls both on console and PC. As impressive as it is that just about everything you'd want to be able to do in an RTS works reasonably well on a gamepad. It’s just too slow to select and micromanage your units effectively in combat. I expect most people will get through the campaign largely by selecting all units on-screen and throwing them into battle to fend for them and on PC a broken mini-map and other awkward controls make it feel substandard next to the likes of Starcraft 2. support powers help compensate for the lack of micromanagement dexterity, some of these are strikingly powerful when fully upgraded such as these Archer missiles that destroy a swath of enemies and the extremely useful ODST soldier drums. Using them at the right moment feels great and can absolutely turn the tide of a battle or soften up enemies who have clustered around the control point.

On top of the standard death match mode Halo Wars twos territory controlled domination matches get the support power as many moments to shine and because you're given the choice of seven commander characters with different sets of support abilities you have a lot of options then. On the other hand there's not a lot of room to experiment with base building options because placement is so rigid. There’s also another territory control mode called stronghold where you're competing to control the most base building locations on the map when the timer ends. The twist is that everyone has completely unlimited resources I call it a fun diversion like playing with Goofy cheat codes on. Blitz is the big one with no bases or unit production to worry about it's all about fast battles. Reinforcements are zapped in from a deck of collectable cards which is a cool idea on paper because it prevents you from simply repeating the same successful tactics over and over again. Improvisation feels good but I don't think it's a great fit for a competitive game because all too often you win or lose based on the luck of the draw instead of skill. Finally there's a single-player and co-op variant of blitz called firefight that's about holding out against ever increasing waves of enemies as they try and overwhelm you. Beating up on AI is a much better use of the cart mechanic.

Halo Wars 2 will scratch a real-time strategy itch and gives you a dose of Halo universe flavor with an honest story but it won't go much deeper than that a run-of-the-mill campaign controls that hamper micromanagement and multiplayer that relies on luck limit its long-term appeal but it's fast and flashy action make it fun for a while.

Halo Wars 2 may be a real-time strategy (RTS) computer game developed by 343 Industries and artistic Assembly. The game is honorably published by Microsoft Studios and released in 21,Feb,2017 on playstation,Xbox and Windows.the game play of Halo Wars 2 designed on the inspiration from its sequel ; players construct a base of operations and command armies from a bird's-eye view of the battlefield. The game are often played employing a gamepad or employing a mouse and keyboard.Like its sequel Halo Wars 1, the game have two playable modes within the game: the United Nations Space Command (UNSC),humanity's main military arm, which is from the primary game, and also alien mode inspaired to as the Banished, who function replacement for the Covenant.Animated cutscenes and dialogue precede each mission to supply context and integration with the game's story.

Description :

What makes me feel amazing in that at the very same time is that they make so many tiny men, trees and vehicles in one beautiful terrain but forces are on both sides fighting up and crushing the beauty of the nature. Of course your job is to complete different types of objectives and these all are presented in a specific military manner. For example, you need to cut through enemy territory to see strategic points or positions. the battles are so much huge in multistage that it takes 30 to 40 minimum minutes to complete one mission within a campaign because it's not really enough to just see the front directly and game over but if that you have to make some strategies while moving towards the target as the map for each mission is big enough that you can easily approach the target in two or three ways to make the enemy confuse. Battles are made of multiple stages and like starting from the initial point to move in it's not simple as it was in a sudden strike 1 or 2. you have to go through the enemy line while clearing out the checkpost and finally reach your destination.

Terrain features are purely realistically modelled ever than before trees inside the game look gorgeous and your tanks cannot really go away without crushing. them yes thanks can crush tree down if you order them too fast through them but in a mini time that makes the tanks move slow which makes the game progress a little bit of slow. Which also impacts on the flare strategy so it's totally up to you can want to go through or you just want to take turn and shock the enemy's. Gameplay overall is better than ever it you have tanks soldiers supply trucks and engineer trucks next it is up to you to how to use them. All of the vehicles have petrol that runs quickly out so you need to save your supply truck on a safe point and move rest of the army ahead. Like petrol bullets and shells also run out and you have to resupply them with the help of supply truck. Engineering trucks are used to repair the damaged tanks or other vehicles and are you is to make bridges over the lakes. Kite games took so much time to put these old small details within a game that no one can ignore them at very first sight. it is a little bit hectic to play such a nice game with a controller because to select army units you have to press X and enlarge the shellcode with the left analog stick to select all units area. Which is easy but in a start it was a little bit hectic but later it was a little different.

Obviously like all other games sudden strike have single-player as well as multiplayer single-player campaign includes three campaigns. German campaign, Soviet campaign and allied campaign and each of these campaigns have seven missions and each mission is minimum 30 minutes long. So total length of the single-player campaign is pretty good other than that there is a star system. In the game if you get three stars in each level the challenge mission will unlock in which you have to complete the same level with limited ammo supply. Other than that by going on each mission you have option to choose between main three doctrines. Those are infantry doctrines armored, doctrines ansible, doctrine each of them is linked up with specific perks like infantry doctrine will give you hand grenades. Armored will give you her hatch lockout which actually enhance the tanks that look out on map. Support will give you army telemeter mechanics smoke grenade etc. one important thing in these different doctrines offers different perks and different missions so rejoice.

Sudden strike 4 kite games have seriously put their time in the game the way the tank moves through the trees by crushing them living their prints behind on mud or when they attack on houses and they break off a few hits and gorgeous to witness after all. Well all in all sudden strike 4 is gorgeous and technically realtime strategy game and this time on console which is most loving part of the console players overall in all aspects 7/4 is gorgeous looking strategy game. While keeping the landing missions and historically somehow accurate kite games deliver and other hit for fans. While on ps4 it feels a little confusing in start but literally after 5 mins it's the same as its PC.

Sudden Strike 4 may be a real-time tactics computer game set in war II. it's the fifth game within the Sudden Strike series and therefore the fourth standalone release. It is the primary game developed by KITE Games. It was released on Assumption , 2017 for PC and PlayStation 4.The single-player mode features 3 campaigns with over 20 missions and modding support is planned. Strategy is heavily supported those of its predecessors with attention on the unique characteristics and skills of limited units rather than resource gathering and base building. Reinforcements who is controlled by AI still play a task in the game, but as expected they are predictable  and scripted so the are pretty week. The game also have commander roles and skill trees with famous war II  generals like Bernard Montgomery or George Patton.

Description :

The first character you meet in game is the narrator now in most games the narrator's aren't technically characters but I think you'll agree with me that this is certainly the case here. If you've ever played Bastion you'll be familiar with the storyteller in that game he practically provides play-by-play commentary on everything the player does. Though the one in dungeons 3 doesn't go quite that far the narrator is very involved with his explanations his jokes and even banters with actual in-game characters. He plays a huge role in setting the tone of the game which actually encroaches into the territory of satire there's plenty of references to game mechanics and pop culture from Star Wars to Warcraft from Lord of the Rings to even breaking the fourth wall and talking about the previous games in the dungeons franchise and while we're on the topic of breaking the fourth wall they don't exactly shy away from it. The narrator will comment on cutscenes generic gaming character tropes and even has unique dialogue to welcome you back to the game when you launched at different hours of the day and these interactions aren't just limited to dialogue either. There are times when the narrator will actually interfere with gameplay like summoning mobs of spite or interrupting entire cutscenes. These are clearly scripted of course but enjoyable nonetheless. So, what exactly is the story that the narrator trying to tell basically you are the absolute evil and after conquering the lands in the previous dungeon games you set out to a new continent to do the very same and that's pretty much the main premise of the game. You are evil and you're just trying to destroy everything that represents good. You’re not gonna find a deep story or intricate plot here instead you're presented with a simple goal and as they say it's all about the journey. Your road to conquering everything good is filled with stereotypes of the fantasy genre and heroic characters and just plain conquest.

You are promised a simulation and management game with some RTS sprinkled in so how exactly is this implemented well the first thing you need to understand is the maps are split into the overworld and the underworld. While the underworld is your domain in each mission you'll need to build up their forces in your dungeon and conquer the overworld. Of course things aren't always straightforward and easy periodically waves of valiant heroes will enter your dungeon and try to destroy your dungeon heart if that happens you lose the mission. During my playthrough that's never really happened to me and at least on normal difficulty these waves are easily dealt with. The main gameplay loop begins at your dungeon heart with five of your workers or as they're called little snots. How you build your dungeon is completely up to you but you'll need to start by digging out paths and zoning out rooms. Rather than just placing buildings like in a traditional RTS game you assign tiles to a specific room type and your workers will automatically build out the room and play structures for you. Though, there are some specialized structures that you'll have to place manually as well major gold deposits are scattered throughout the dungeon and though these are finite there's also a diamond deposit located somewhere deeper underground that can be harvested indefinitely. It is kind of annoying that you have to use a per core or two to dig around your dungeon just to look for these resources especially when gold deposits run out rather quickly. It’s actually really important to try and find that diamond deposit because gold can be a hard limiting factor on your army. Which I'll explain in just a bit your other two main resource types are mana used for casting your spells and reviving demons and evilness which is gained through capturing certain points in the world and these are used for researching your upgrades. Now as for unit production and management there's actually quite a lot to it.

There are three major types of units the Horde, the demon and the dead. I won't be going into detail about each one as I mainly want to talk about how to manage units in general, whichever unit type you choose to produce you're gonna need to dig up some space for their home base the Horde lives in a hideout the demons in the vortex and the undead in the graveyard. These rooms aren't just for show and when your units are back at base though automatically returned to these places to heal and rest. When undead units are killed in battle they'll regenerate themselves in the graveyard. Similarly demons will automatically be resummoned in the four texts provided to have enough mana for the process. Now the reason I consider dungeons 3 a simulation and management game first is because of everything that's required to take care of your minions. In a traditional RTS games the only things you really need for units are some sort of food or supply and upfront cost to produce the unit and the time to Train the units.

In dungeons 3 units do still take up a population supply and they also have upfront costs but they don't require any time to Train instead there are perfora of other things they require. The first is food now food is different from population and while population supply is a hard limit on how many units you can have your units will also get hungry and every so often you'll need to feed them and in order to do so you'll need to produce a gobbler farm to make food. If a units hunger reaches a hundred percent they will refuse the fight for you and go on strike literally. Your minions aren't slaves and they're here because well it's their job and that means they expect to get paid beyond their upfront cost you also need to pay them a salary every few minutes. Again if you don't have the goal to pay for them they'll stop working for you and this is where the importance of gold comes in. Units will also get tired and need to rest this means heading back to their rooms and relaxing and these are just a few of their very basic needs and there are more advanced things that you'll need to take care of each unit levels up. These unit requirements actually have some very substantial impact on the gameplay. the first one you'll likely notice is that you can't just venture into the overworld indefinitely because once in a while you'll need to return to base and let your units eat and rest. This actually slows down the game quite a bit and results in pretty long game times. Secondly, you'll also need to plan for these needs accordingly or face a roadblock and your ability to tack up and grow your army. For example, having a 4x4 room for your food production is up lilia acceptable in the beginning but you'll need to expand substantially if you want to manage any sizable army.

You also need to research and build things like a mana bath or a brewery if you want to love with your units beyond a certain point. In terms of simulation and management gameplay I found dungeons 3 to be pretty fun but there's something that has been really polarizing for me. The map is split into two portions the over and the underworld and for some reason the developers decided to split the control schemes for the two as well. The hand of evil is essentially your mouse cursor and you can use it to pick up your units and instantly throw them in any part of your dungeon or even slapthem around if you like but only in the underworld there's a hotkey that instantly gather all the units into your hand of evil and you can easily send your entire army above ground anytime you like. It’s a fantastic feature that saves time and basically allows you to teleport your army across the map. It’s especially useful if there are multiple entrances to your dungeon but the hand is far from perfect because of the different needs and functions of each unit type you often want to select certain groups of units and send them to do certain tasks. for example, demons and only demons interact with the arcane ium to generate mana but there's no hotkey to select a hundred demon units specifically instead you're forced to select your entire army drop all of them in the arcane ium and just wait for your non demon units to walk out on their own. The only real option is to create your own custom control groups manually for each unit type. This honestly wouldn't be that big of an issue if there was a way to drop all your units at once. Yeah you heard me right you can pick up all your units with a single button but can't drop them all at once you're forced to drop them one by one by spamming your right mouse button. I can't for the life of me figure out why they chose it is the single most annoying thing in the game and it really feels like an easy fix.

While we're on the topic of weird control schemes in the underworld you cannot select a unit without picking them up. This means there's no way to control your units to fight underground and the only thing you can do is to drop them at a location and watch them fight automatically. It seems like a huge oversight in my opinion while you're above ground you do get full control of your units allowing you to micro them during combat cast spells and position them properly. Unit types are quite varied and have their specialties from the resurrecting undead to the tanked orgs and the charming succubi there's a good number of units to let you create your own army composition. Most spells are auto cast by default and I rarely found the need to manually cast spells and last thing I'll touch upon is the gameplay style. I actually found the idea of having a management base building game with RTS combat really fun but if you're a hardcore RTS fan and come from games like Warcraft or Starcraft you'll be disappointed in how straightforward and streamlined the RTS elements are. Like I mentioned before this is a simulation and management game first because of this the amount of units you typically need before you're strong enough to take on enemies is actually really low at least through the campaign I found hitting between 13 to 15 units will allow me to easily breeze through anything that AI could throw at me and with a little microbe even fewer than that.

You only get to control a single Shiro Ted character Dahlia and she's not exactly interesting in terms of combat design. She’s a mage with a couple of spells that could easily put on Auto cast and just attacking you through your entire army and easily crush your opponents. I had never really had a need to control her either because there aren't any races or factions or anything of that nature each game will play relatively the same way once you figure out your build order and an army composition that's effective you'll be doing the same thing over and over again and it does honestly get stale. Since the units are already split into three different categories I think it would be an interesting idea to have them split into three different playable factions and flesh out their own unique play styles. Though my review is mainly based on the single-player campaign there are other game modes skirmish mode contains a mighty boss hero than you need to build up your army to defeat. Survival mode has you defending against increasingly stronger waves of enemies and in this mode is well endless.

There is also a multiplayer mode where you can duel against other players online. I haven't played these other modes extensively so I won't comment on them but I just wanted to let you know that they do exist. Though the issues with controls were a big annoyance for me I still had a great time at the game and the bottom line is that dungeons 3 is genuinely a fun game. Issues are all things that can be easily fixed through a patch and when that sort of hour I think 12 gorgeous reveals will have a very compelling game their hands. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who's into the simulation and management type genres. Especially, if you like games with a bit of humor to them the cartoonish graphics may not appeal to everyone but it might also bring some nostalgic feelings to fans of warcraft 3.
