customized the end product but the impact of getting a
singular stage curated for each career
event and a bottomless supply of them at your fingertips outside of the career
mode can't
be understated. No more cheeky reverse stages or
repetitive share track sections your stage is a game-changer for rally games.
Until now codemasters ego engine games have always looked a little muted not dirt
4 the lighting is the best that's ever come out of code masters there were so
many little details I love too. The heat haze wafting off the wide starting straights
and stadium bass land rush events. Compacted dirt surfaces baking out of the
harsh Sun the leaf litter lining the unsealed back roads of Michigan churned up
and dancing in slip streams dark new mud being caked upon dry pale dust over
the course of several hits of a rallycross event the absurdly good water splash
effects. Then there's the sound which is brilliant blasting over Cal grid
sounds like the flip of a mini gun and the constant sweet sweet exhaust overrun
sounds like Satan half choking on a pistachio.
Don't fall has to physics modes simulation and gamer and leaderboards and
online challenges segregate the two simulation is my preference gamer takes away
the need to put weight over the front for turnin it feels a little too responsive
to me but having that option adds layers of accessibility to the experience
without ever crippling the serious rally sim at its core. Career mode is a big
step up from dirt rally 2 fleshing out the experience with team facilities and
upgrades to spend your money on it encourages you to build a personalized fleet
from the great mix of cars to thrash and trash. Delivery editor could use a
little more functionality also noteworthy is the official World rallycross
championship mode which returns from dirt rally with a few more tracks although
not all the tracks within
the world series
are included. It’s
such an excellent racing
format for video games though short tracks unique format and astonishingly
powerful cars going door to door. Is also the dirtfish rally school which is an
awesome open area used for joyriding testing rally lessons and some genuinely
fun time attack events and there's the return of dirt rallies regular community
events only this time it's with stages that are always new to everyone who
participates Plus competitive and custom multiplayer modes for lobbies of up to
8 but no split-screen.
Dirt 4 very much feels like a return to the good old days of the series of the
late 90s and early 2000s back then codemasters rally games with a yardstick
against which all other races with off-road aspirations were measured well
those days are back. Accessible yet hard and stained yet beautiful dirt 4 sets a
replacement standard in rally racing and it's well
considered career mode and endless stages injected with tremendous stamina
absolutely stonking brilliant.
